15 Amazing facts about water:


1: The chemical symbol for water is H2O

2: Each molecule of water is made from two atoms of hydrogen combined with one atom of oxygen


3: Your brain is made up of approximately 85% water and your bones are approximately 33% water.


4: The water you drink has been circling around in the water cycle for millions of years - that means the same water exists now as when dinosaurs were on the Earth!


5: Clouds are made from millions of tiny droplets of water, each droplet being so small and light that it can float in the air, being lifted by warm air currents rising from the ground

6: The oceans hold 97% of the world's water while 2% of it is frozen in the polar ice caps.Ths leaves only 1% of the world's water available to ensure that there is water in all the streams, rivers, reservoirs, lakes, aquifers, and atmoshere.


7: When water warms up it turns into a gas called water vapour.


8: Water is the only substance that actually gets bigger as it gets colder. As water freezes and turns into ice it increases in volume. This is why frozen water in the pipework in your home can burst your pipes.

13: Water used to travel along pipes made out of wood! The pipes were made from long tree trunks through which a hole was bored. Sections of pipe were joined together using wider tree trunks with bigger holes bored through them.


14: The first major water storage reservoir in the world was built 450 BC in South America and was used into the nineteenth century.


15: The Romans were famous for their AQUADUCTS, which they built to carry the purer waters of springs and rivers into the city of Rome, sometimes from as far as 100km away.
